About

The Department of Philosophy boasts a rich history as one of the oldest departments in our college. Philosophy as a general course subject started in 1992, and the Honours program in Philosophy was established in June 14, 2002, marking a significant milestone. Choice-based credit system (CBCS) was implemented by the department in 2019 in accordance with the University of Gour Banga Curriculum and is currently being followed by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. There are now two substantive faculty members in the philosophy department, Smt. Joyita Basak (HOD) & Smt. Neelanjana Chowdhury and two state-aided college teachers (SACT) Mr. Sanjoy Karmokar & Dr. Md Anarul Islam.

Beyond delivering classroom lectures, our dedicated faculty actively nurtures the inherent talents of our students. This commitment is evident in the regular publication of wall magazines named “SAMYAK” means true knowledge, showcasing student creativity and independent artistic endeavours. Furthermore, the department fosters intellectual growth by organizing National and International seminars, enriching the academic experience and expanding the horizons of philosophical knowledge. This department strives to guide students not only in academic pursuits but also in understanding and implementing the higher objectives of life. Recognizing the interconnectedness of philosophical, religious, sociological, and ethical values, the department fosters respect for all perspectives crucial for enhancing human quality of life. By integrating reason and experience, students develop a pragmatic outlook.

Vision of the department:

  • The philosophy department of Samsi College aims to be a leading center for philosophical study by combining Western, Indian, and modern traditions (such as Advaita Vedanta, metaphysics, and practical ethics).
  • Through philosophical research, Our aims to develop analytical, logical, and reflective skills in students to promote intellectual growth and harmony.
  • Our objective is to help students learn philosophy with an emphasis on spiritual, moral, and ethical ideals in a calm, peaceful, and honorable environment, so that they can grow up to be honest, moral citizens.

Mission of the department:

  • Formulate life with the help of philosophical thoughts and fulfill their life's purpose easily.
  • To encourage multidisciplinary participation by relating philosophy to current cultural, scientific, and societal challenges.
  • To promote research, reasoning power and reflective practice, among students and faculty to contribute societal well-being.
  • To create a supportive learning environment that nurtures intellectual curiosity, effective communication, and lifelong learning for different learners.
