The Department of Sociology in Samsi College, Malda started its journey in the year 2004. The University of North Bengal recommends the opening with 150 students in Sociology (General) subject into the academic session 2004-05 for the long demand of students. In 2006 two faculty members named Tanushree Mani and Tapopriya Roy joined as Part Time Lecturers in the department. The Department was smoothly running out with the 2 years Sociology (General) course. In 2009 Sociology 3Year’s Honours course started under the affiliation of Gour Banga University. In 2012 Mousumi Sarkar (Roy) joined as a Guest Lecturer and in 2016 Sritama Choudhuri joined as a Assistant Professor in the Department.
At present, the Department has two faculty members named Tapopriya Roy and Mousumi Sarkar (Roy) State Aided College Teacher (SACT- 2). The Departmental faculties are very much sincere and sympathetic towards their students. The Department organizes enquiry-based work, study and field work. The Department always encourages their students to participate in the other academic as well as social welfare and environmental porgrammes. The Departmental faculty takes class tests, internal and tutorial assignments regularly.
The Sociology department is an essential part of any academic institution, fostering a deeper understanding of human social behavior, relationships, and institutions.
