ABOUT

The history department of the Samsi College was founded in the year 1968 with a general degree course along with the college itself. it was upgraded to an Honours degree course in 1994. The department taught as per the syllabus laid down by the North Bengal University until 2008, and subsequently  that of Gour Banga University from 2008 to the present day. The Head of Department (HOD) is appointed by the Principal from among the faculty, with a term of two years. The most recent appointment was on 01/07 /2024. Departmental programmes are planned systematically. Each faculty member is assigned departmental duties in every academic session.

Vision:

We envision history as a continuous dialogue between present and past. So, the vision of the department is to create an awareness or knowledge of the past in order to better understand the present. This will enable the students to be responsible citizens having improved grasp over the current situations.

Mission:

To popularize the study of history among the local populace and widen the basis of understanding of our present in order to create a better future.
