About

The department starts its journey since 25th August of 1968 and The Department of Philosophy boasts a rich history as one of the oldest departments in our college. The Department of Philosophy offers primarily general degree course at the initial stage , and the Honours program in Philosophy was introduced from 14th June, 2002 under the affiliation of North Bengal University till 2008. After 2008 the college was affiliated to University of Gour Banga till now. The Choice-based credit system (CBCS) was implemented as per UGC norms in 2019. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being followed as per the guideline of UGC and The University of Gour Banga.

Besides delivering classroom lectures, our dedicated faculty actively nurtures the inherent talents of our students. This commitment is evident in the regular publication of wall magazines named “SAMYAK” means true knowledge, showcasing student creativity and independent artistic endeavours. Furthermore, the department fosters intellectual growth by organizing National and International seminars, enriching the academic experience and expanding the horizons of philosophical knowledge. This department strives to guide students not only in academic pursuits but also in understanding and implementing the higher objectives of life. Recognizing the interconnectedness of philosophical, religious, sociological, and ethical values, the department fosters respect for all perspectives crucial for enhancing human quality of life. By integrating reason and experience, students develop a pragmatic outlook.

Vision of the department:

• The philosophy department of Samsi College aims to be a leading center for philosophical study by combining Western, Indian, and Modern traditions (such as Advaita Vedanta, metaphysics, and practical ethics).
• Through philosophical study, Our aims to develop analytical, logical, and reflective skills in students to promote intellectual growth and harmony.
• Our objective is to help students learn philosophy with an emphasis on spiritual, moral, and ethical ideals in a calm, peaceful, and honorable environment, so that they can grow up to be honest, good human beings.

Mission of the department:

• Formulation of life with the help of philosophical thoughts and fulfil their life's purpose easily.
• To encourage the students in multidisciplinary participation by relating philosophy includes  current cultural, scientific thought process, and social challenges.
• To promote research, reasoning power and reflective practice among students and faculty in order to contribute to uphold social well-being.
• To create a supportive learning environment by the nurtures of intellectual curiosity, effective communication, and lifelong learning among the learners.
